Make your own garden and explain how plants grow while exploring a variety of art materials.
What You’ll Need:
- Spiral pasta (like rotini)
- Washable tempera paint
- Paint brushes
- Pom poms
- Green construction paper
- Other colors of construction paper
- Green felt
Step 1 – Make the Stems
Cut out long, thin rectangles out of green construction paper to use as the flower stems.
*Connect: Talk about how when you plant a seed, the flower grows out of the ground. Teach vocabulary words, like “stem” and “seed”.
Step 2 – Flower Time
Glue the rectangle stems vertically to the background paper. At the top of the stem, glue the pom pom to make the center of the flower. Glue the pasta around the pom pom to make the flower petals.
*Connect: Teach kids another new vocabulary word: “petals.”
Step 3 – Make the Leaves
Cut out leaf shapes from felt and glue them along the stem.
*Connect: After it dries, teach kids the word “texture” and talk about the different textures in the picture. Feel the different textures and describe them together.
