This rubber band craft creates some funky art and a musical instrument in one.
What You’ll Need:
- Cardboard cut in a square or rectangle
- White paper cut to a size slightly smaller than the cardboard
- Several rubber bands of different sizes
- Washable tempera paint
Step 1 – Make some music
Step 2 – Make the instrument
*Tips for Parents: Your child might need some help during this step. Hold the cardboard while your child stretches the rubber bands around it.
Step 3 – Paint
Slip a piece of paper between the rubber bands and the cardboard. Add a drop of paint on top of each rubber band. Use a different color for each rubber band. Have the child snap the rubber bands, creating splashy patterns with the paint.
*Tips for Parents: This step can become very messy. Use just a dab of paint, only adding more if necessary. Once the paint dries completely, your child can use the art project as a personal guitar. Sing along to some music!
