What You’ll Need:
Step 1 – Prepare the area
Put some dough within easy reach of the kids, and set out the small trinkets in a variety of cups, trays, or something similar.
*Tips for Parents: This activity works great on a low table that gives kids easy access to all the materials.
Step 2 – Create
Give kids free reign with the dough and see what happens.
*Tips for Parents: Although this activity seems so simple, kids can really make it complex. Resist the urge to get involved and contain the mess. If kids are more interested in dumping the trinkets from one cup to the other than playing with the dough, that’s OK. Play next to your child. It’s important for your child to see you use your imagination, and it’s important for your child to see that no one is too old or too busy to use his or her imagination. My older son, who is learning math, was very focused on making patterns in his dough. My younger son made a space ship.
