Make a winter scene in an extra-large snow globe. This makes a wonderful winter and holiday decoration
What You’ll Need:
- Stiff white paper plate
- Clear plastic plate
- Hot glue
- White glue
- Green and brown construction paper
- Cotton balls
- Crinkled paper strips
- Glitter or confetti
Step 1 – Assemble the tree
Have your child glue the pine tree to the white paper plate.
*Tips for Parents: Older children can cut their own trees and trunks; pre-cut them for younger children. Ask kids to pick out the different shapes: Where’s the triangle? Which one is a rectangle?
Step 2 – Make the collage
Children can now add collage materials to the scene.
*Tips for Parents: This should be a sensory experience for the kids. Kids love grabbing handfuls of soft cotton balls and shaking glitter containers. Encourage your child to explore the different materials. Don’t glue the materials on; they should be free to move around once you complete the project.
Step 3 – Hot glue the snow globe together.
Apply a bead of glue around the edge of the plastic plate. Press it face down onto the white plate. Add another bead of glue around the edge to secure it. Hot glue a loop of yarn to the top of the snow globe so you can hang it.
*Tips for Parents: This step involves very hot glue and should be done by an adult.
Hang the snow globe on the front door or anywhere else in your house to celebrate the season!
