Threading Necklaces

threading Begin to show fine motor dexterity and control.

  • To improve fine motor skills and dexterity
  • To practice manipulating small items

Before You Start: Gather large wooden or plastic beads, Rexlace®, yarn or other stringing materials and type(s) of cereal that have holes children can use for stringing.

Let's Get Started! Step 1. Give the children an opportunity to thread cereal on a heavy string. These can be worn or eaten for a snack.

Step 2. Some children may need extra help by knotting the end of the string that the child is threading through the hole in the cereal.

Step 3. Have the children thread large beads on a heavy string for fine motor practice.

Furthermore: As children develop fine motor skills and improve their stringing abilities, try using smaller beads.
