Glowing Pumpkins

glowingpumpkins Children will "carve" paper pumpkins and make them glow!

Goals:

  • To encourage creativity
  • To reinforce fine motor skills

Before You Start: You will need orange and green construction paper, yellow tissue paper, a glue stick, scissors, fall fabric leaves, orange markers and tape.

Let's Get Started! Step 1. Have the children use orange markers to draw pumpkins on a piece of orange construction paper. They will then draw a jack-o-lantern face on the pumpkin – encourage them to be creative with this.

Step 2. Have the young ones cut out their pumpkin paper shapes, making sure to help them cut out the face pieces such as the eyes, mouth etc.

Step 3. After they have cut out the pumpkin and face, have them outline the jack-o-lantern on the other side (back) of the pumpkin with a glue stick. Then, have them place a piece of yellow tissue paper on top of it. Carefully trim any part of the tissue paper that hangs over the edge of the pumpkin.

Step 4. Next, have the children create stems by cutting them out of green construction paper and gluing them onto the the tops of their jack-o-lanterns.

Step 5. Have the children glue a few fall fabric leaves near the stem for a great final touch.

Furthermore: To get the full effect of the glowing, tape the jack-o-lanterns onto the windows. The sun will "light up " the jack-o-lanterns and make them "glow"!
