- To Learn what happens when you mix two primary colors
Before You Start: Gather materials needed: 16 oz. water bottles (one for each child), water, vegetable oil, Liquid Watercolor™ in primary colors.
Let's Get Started! Step 1. Have the children fill a water bottle almost half way with water.
Step 2. Add some blue watercolor.
Step 3. In a measuring cup, mix oil and yellow watercolor.
Step 4. Add the oil and yellow water color mixture to the bottle with the blue water in it.
Step 5. Screw on cap and secure with masking tape.
Step 6. Shake the bottle until the solution turns green!
Step 7. The water will settle and the colors will separate back to yellow and blue.
Furthermore: Make other colors like purple using blue and red. The children can use this again and again to reinforce the concept of blending colors.
