Fantastic Fish

fantasticfish This project was created to explore color blending, cutting, tying and gluing.

Goals:

  • For students to explore color, shape and fine motor skills

Before You Start: You’ll need the following supplies: Bingo Bottles filled with Colorations® Liquid Watercolor (yellow, blue and red), Liquid Watercolor™ Texas Snowflakes, large wiggly eyes, glue, colored tissue paper, newspaper, rubber bands and string. You will want to cover the table you are working on with two layers of newspaper since the watercolor sinks into the giant coffee filters.

Let's Get Started! Step 1. Lay out the Liquid Watercolor™ Texas Snowflakes.

Step 2. Using the yellow Colorations® Liquid Watercolor, start drawing designs with the Bingo Bottles all over the snowflake. You don’t want to fill it in completely, leave room for the other colors.

Step 3. Add red and blue and see how the colors blend together and create green, orange and purple. This is the part the kids love!

Step 4. Put aside to dry. This will take about 10-15 minutes.

Step 5. While they are drying, have the children pick out wiggly eyes for their fish and tissue paper for the mouth and fins.

Step 6. Once dry, take two pieces of newspaper and scrunch into a tight ball, place in the center of the coffee filter and pull up the sides of the filter so you have a round fish with some extra filter sticking out.

Step 7. Take the rubber band or string and tie it so you can see the round ball and the extra filter which will look like a fish tail.

Step 8. Now it's time to decorate! Add wiggly eyes, etc.

Step 9. Take the tissue paper and scrunch it up to add lips to the fish.

Step 10. Take two long pieces of tissue to glue to the sides for fins.

Step 11. Now you're done! Hang the creations all over the room, they make great decorations!

Furthermore: This project is great to discuss sea life. Also, try changing the fish into a jelly fish!
